My Realistic List of New Year’s Resolutions

With a new year comes New Year’s Resolutions.

I usually don’t do the whole New Year’s Resolution thing because I know myself and I know I will not stick with it. Plain and simple.

The most common resolutions include something to do with weight loss. I ALWAYS stayed away from these….I lack will power when it comes to exercising haha.

Even though I usually don’t do the whole New Year’s Resolution thing… this year I have decided I am going to not only make a list….I AM going to stick to it.

So what is on the Southern Pearl’s New Year’s Resolution list?

I want to be a better wife.

Oh boy is this a loaded one! This could mean a million different things but I have some specific things I want to work on:

  • I want to cook more often.
    • I have gotten in the habit of doing mostly microwavable things or ordering out when it is just Josh and I at the house.
  • I want to clean more often.
    • Eww. I hate cleaning! I have never been good at it and never pushed myself to do it. But this HAS to change!
  • I want to get upset less at my husband.
    • Oh lawd! My poor husband gets the worst of my attitude and temper. If I’m upset he is the first to know. I want to work on this and be able to control my feelings (is that possible for a woman? haha)

I want to be a better mother.

This is another loaded one!

  • I want to spend more “quality” instead of “quantity” time with my kids. We live in such a fast paced world that we always have our mind on the next task at hand. Our babies are only little once…we need to take a step back and enjoy it while we can.

I want to deal with my stress better.

My poor husband tries to help me lower my stress level on a daily basis. He is always trying to give me tips to help calm myself down. He is the most laid back person I have ever met! It takes a lot to get him going….so he doesn’t understand why I am so high strung. I will give it to him though….when he wants to help me calm down he does a pretty good job. He will even try to make me mad at him for something stupid so that way my mind is off what I was worrying about. Unconventional I know…but it works and helps me. He truly is great!

Get ORGANIZED!

Oh sweet baby Jesus if there is one thing that I need to work on this year it is my lack on being organized at my house! My sister is like Betty Homemaker when it comes to being organized. It’s actually OCD I think haha. She organizes EVERYTHING. But she always knows where things are and it looks good. She puts me to shame…and I need to fix it! I wonder if I can talk her into coming over and helping her big sister organize her chaotic life? It’s worth a try….what do you think Sis?

I mean come on look at how under her bathroom sink looks!

I am moving in the right direction though….I asked my mother-in-law for a four compartment laundry sorter for Christmas. She thought I was crazy but I REALLY needed one. I am always drowning in clothes! Six people can accumulate a decent pile of clothes. The organizer can help me sort out laundry and keep it separated.

Not to mention with a new baby arriving in June…if I don’t get organized I am in for it!

Set A Stricter Blog Schedule

When starting The Southern Pearl I tried to have a new blog post every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. However, with life getting in the way this has not always been possible. There was a span of time when I was sick (all day pregnancy sickness and exhaustion) and blogging was the last thing on my mind. In 2016 I want to make sure that I am giving you all AT LEAST two new blog posts a week.

Start a podcast

Ooooohhhh yes you read correctly….I want to start a podcast. I am unsure of how often I want to post one or what exactly my topics will be but I know I want to start one.  Hopefully it’s something I can start soon :).

Lastly….

I want to enjoy life more!!

I want to be able to set stress and worry aside and enjoy life more in 2016. There are so many things that I can sit and worry about but I need to focus more on my family and my happiness. Unfortunately, the saying “if  momma ain’t happy nobody’s happy” can be true for our home. When I am upset or stressed I can’t help but show it and it affects my family. So in 2016 this momma is going to enjoy life more and in return everyone should be happy :)!

Some of these are going to take some serious work and dedication but I have faith I can/will do it! Hey….Rome wasn’t built in a day 😉

Do you have a New Year’s Resolution? Do we have any that are the same? I’d like to hear back from you…leave your answer in the comments below.
