Growing up most little girls dream of getting married and having children. They have their life planned out and of course it is nothing short of a fairy tale. However, in blended family life nothing resembles a fairy tale unless people are referring to the stepmom as “wicked.”
Date your spouse?
Ain’t nobody got time for that!
Well guess what? You NEED to make time for “that.” Your marriage could depend on it!
Being a stepmom is hard. No ands, ifs, or buts about it. What’s even harder is being a stepmom before having children of your own.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
Well hello there strangers! It feels like it’s been forever and a day since my last post!
I have missed posting and told myself I BETTER get my tail in gear and post today.
Bio Mom(s) this one is for you…..from a loving (Step) Mom.
Lord it feels like ages since I have done a blog post.
As a little girl did you dream of prince charming, or your knight in shining armor?
I’m not really sure how to start this post. I could say something witty, something inspiring but nothing is coming to me.
When I write it helps me deal with things. But this “thing” is a big deal.
Women usually have a feeling they are pregnant. If nothing else they usually have an idea once they miss their period. Finding out I was pregnant was not that simple.
Surprise! We are pregnant!!
Last weekend was filled with events, family, and of course stress. However, Savannah Rose had a wonderful party and it made everything so much better!
Groceries are expensive! It’s a terrible feeling going to the grocery store and paying a fortune and only getting a few things. Well guess what? This past weekend I fed my family of six for an entire weekend for less than $50!
Yes you read correctly…I owe thanks to my ex-boyfriend for treating me like crap.
Weddings are stressful. Period….end of story. There is no getting around the stress that comes from what is supposed to be the best day of your life.
Being a stepmom is an amazing and rewarding experience. But I have to say it is one of the most difficult and emotional things I’ve ever went through. Nothing is ever perfect……..what fun would it be if it was?
Minecraft….Minecraft….Minecraft. My kids are obsessed! They eat, sleep, breath, and live for that game. I am waiting for them to get over this phase but it’s not looking good.
How did you spend your holiday weekend? We spent ours with a cookout, fireworks…..and family, family, family. I sure can’t think of a better way to celebrate!
Picture this: hair pulled back in a bun…possibly soaking wet…and no makeup. I have just described how I look 85% of the time.
Who am I trying to impress? I have already snagged my handsome husband…..I could care less about what other people think about me. I may generally look like a hot mess but you will never see my kids that way!
Yesterday my husband and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary.
I love my husband more than anything in this world but like other couples we have had our issues. It’s easy for couples to have a “perfect” marriage on Facebook or Instagram. However, there is no such thing as a perfect marriage. Couples disagree, fight, argue and sometimes just don’t like each other.
Yes you read correctly. There was a penguin in Breathitt County, Kentucky! One of the penguins from Madagascar took another side trip and ended up in Jackson, Kentucky.
Okay…..that may not be correct but it sure sounded funny. There really was a penguin in Jackson but it didn’t talk and was never stranded on an island with King Julien.
Vacations can be expensive! Most families don’t get to go on vacations because they don’t have the extra money. I totally understand this. Family vacations really should be about spending quality time with your family and spouse. You don’t have to go to an expensive resort or the beach to have a successful family vacation.
Castles are amazing to me. What would it have been like to live in something so big and extravagant? What’s even more amazing is that the Loveland Castle in Loveland, Ohio was built by one man! One man! That is insane!
Day 2 of the 2015 Thompson Family Vacation was spent at the castle.
I remember the first time I visited the castle as a child. I hope our visit today leaves a lasting impression on the kids like it did me when I was their age.
Okay so maybe we didn’t stay the night at the Cincinnati Museum Center but wouldn’t that be awesome? I can see it now….the kids would be walking around with Ben Stiller as the museum exhibits came to life. Wouldn’t that be something?
Day 1 of the 2015 Thompson Family Vacation was spent at the Cincinnati Museum Center. This was the first time my husband and kids had been there. I had went twice as a child and absolutely loved it! Continue reading
Father’s Day is a day to honor our fathers.
How far do you go to honor your husband on Father’s Day? And no I’m not talking about what you get him from your kids. I mean what do you do for him from YOU?
The day we celebrate dads and stepdads. Not everyone has the luxury of having their biological father raise them. This is why stepdads and stepmoms are important too.
I was blessed to have my dad in my life. I grew up a daddy’s girl. Wherever my dad was….I was right there! If he was out working on his ’66 Ford Mustang (which I LOVED) or working a side job…I wanted to be by his side. To me my daddy hung the moon. There’s a saying that says daddy’s are their sons first hero and their daughters first love. This was definitely true for me.
With a family of six, free activities are ALWAYS the best! We love to be able to get the kids out of the house. We have to make our oldest daughter have “electronic free” days. I’m sure there are other moms out there that have the same struggle.
It’s summertime and it gets soooo hot. Unfortunately we don’t have a pool at home. Any water activity we can find is great and the kids have a blast. For all those near the Beattyville, Kentucky area do I have a treat for you. There is a FREE splash park at Happy Top! Everyone loves the word free….if you say you don’t you may be fibbing.
I am the oldest of six kids. Yep….six! My parents divorced when my sister and I were little. We were the result of “puppy love.” My parents were married at a very young age…we won’t go into how old (young) they were. After getting divorced they both got remarried (this is where the other four siblings come in). My mom blessed us with two little brothers, and my dad blessed us with another brother and a younger sister.
